A GERMAN PAPPENHEIM RAPIER
Circa 1630
With slender tapering blade of flattened-hexagonal section stamped 'Pace' within the short fuller on one side and 'Porta' on the other, plain rectangular ricasso, iron hilt of characteristic type, including cup-guard of slender bars with a pair of sprung-in plates pierced with stars and circles, the quillons and knuckle-guard each with recurved 'fishtail' terminal, plummet shaped pommel, and the grip bound with later brass wire and 'Turk's heads'.
