A COMPOSITE NORTH GERMAN BASKET-HILTED MILITARY SWORD (TESSAK)
Late 16th early 17th Century
With 18th Century curved single-edged blade struck with a moon and star on the inner face (and with traces of a damascened panel on both sides at the forte), iron hilt of both faceted and rounded bars, including a pair of long quillons with angled recurved globular tips cut with a basketwork pattern, outer-guard incorporating a fluted up-turned solid shell-guard, with inner ring-guard and thumb-ring, compressed pommel en suite with the quillon tips, and wooden grip (binding missing).
