A GERMAN SWEPT-HILT RAPIER
Early 17th Century
With tapering blade of flattened-diamond section stamped with a series of letters within the fuller on both sides at the forte and struck with a mark (indistinguishable) on both sides of the ricasso, iron hilt with recurved quillons of flattened bars punched and engraved at the terminals with stylised leaf patterns, a pair of in-curved bars projecting between the quillons, and an additional pair up-curved and projecting from a pair of arms, inner-guard incorporating a small fluted leaf-shaped plate joined to the arms, and to an inner ring-guard, oviform pommel, and grip bound with patterned wire and 'Turk's heads'.
