A FRENCH BURGONET
Early 17th Century
Of two-piece construction joined by a tall narrow comb, drawn-out to form a short pointed neck-guard, pointed up-turned peak and with turned roped edges, the peak struck with a mark, 'HH' conjoined, and decorated throughout with later panels of etched scrolling foliage, monsters and armoured figures, one side of the skull centering on the Royal Arms of France supported by cherubs and the other with a trophy of classical arms with female supporters (the cheek-pieces replaced).
