A PAIR OF ITALIAN GILT-BRONZE PARADE STIRRUPS
Late 16th Century
Cast in relief, with triangular sides decorated with a vertical arrangement of a classical urn topped by addorsed monsters, all supported by a satyr squatting at the base and all on a contrasting stippled ground, boxed suspension loops each faced with a demon mask within a strapwork frame, treads of four bars, the forward bar centering on a lion mask, the subsidiary edges punched and engraved with foliage, and retaining most of their original gilding throughout.
