A RARE PAIR OF NORTH ITALIAN IRON PARADE STIRRUPS DAMASCENED IN GOLD
Circa 1600-1630
Each with triangular sides cusped at the base and rising to form a boxed loop faced by a convex shell-like panel, the sides damascened with a running pattern of delicate close-set interlaced scrolls enriched with dots and arranged within lines to form five vertical bands both inside and out, the top decorated with smaller damascened panels en suite, treads of four bars damascened on the outer sides, and the subsidiary surfaces plain gilt (one retaining most of its damascening, the other with greater scattered patches of wear).
