A COMPOSITE HALF-ARMOUR
Circa 1630
Comprising burgonet with two-piece skull joined by a narrow comb and fitted with both broad neck-lame and pointed peak (cheek-pieces replaced, surface rust), hinged gorget of two lames front and rear, cuirass of heavy construction matching front and rear, the breast-plate of residual 'peascod' type with basal flange divided in the middle, studded with brass-capped rivets and with plain outward turns at the neck and arms, the back-plate formed with a deeper basal divide, inwardly turned edges, carrying a pair of armoured shoulder-straps (modern), and both plates decorated with paired bands of triple line ornament incised in a radial pattern and additionally in single bands about the upper borders, together with a composite fingered gauntlet for the right-hand, with long gutter-shaped cuff (the cuirass, gorget and gauntlet each with heavy russet patina over pitting): on a modern torso stand with a theatrical buff leather coat.
