Lot Essay

At the outbreak of World War II Klop & Nadia Ustinov (née Benois) and their son Peter, as German citizens, were liable to be interned in England. Lady Ottoline and Philip Morrell, who knew the family, vouched for them to the authorities and allowed them to live at 10 Gower Street, London.
