This composition is known in another version of approximately the same dimensions (Piacenza, private collection), that Ferdinando Arisi has published as an autograph work (F. Arisi, Gian Paolo Panini e i fasti della Roma del '700, Rome 1986, p. 324, no. 187, illustrated). Another version, of lesser quality than the present lot, and extended at the sides, was sold at Sotheby's, London, 19 December 1985, lot 119, as 'Follower of Pannini'.
