A Japanese kakemono, 18th/19th century
painted in sumi, slight colour, gofun and gilt on silk with a bearded Buddhist priest seated reading an album, with a recumbent elephant at his feet -- 44½in. x 16½in. (113cm. x 41.9cm.), red lacquered scroll ends.
