A Chinese red lacquer carved double-lozenge box and cover, 19th century
the top carved with bats feeding on lotus scrolls below key-fret borders, flanking the square-framed centre with a shou chracter within a chrysanthemum framed by four foliate ruyi-heads, all reserved on a square diaper ground and framed with a lappet border, the sides with a honeycomb diaper ground, the underside and interior black laquered -- 14in. (35.6cm.) wide.
