A Chinese blue and white jardiniere, early Kangxi
of high-walled ovoid shape, the exterior painted with peony sprays alternating with two panels enclosing a dignitary before two monks and two ladies and a gentleman on terraces, below a band of za bao ('Miscellaneous Treasures') around the tapering neck, with four pierced holes for insertion of handles -- 8 7/8in. (22.5cm.) diam.
