A Chinese famille noire baluster vase, 19th century
decorated with a kneeling man before an altar flanked by dignitaries and ladies beside a fenced garden with plantain, the shoulder with cartouches enclosing za bao ('Miscellaneous Treasures') reserved on a trellis ground, the neck with a lady and a gentleman in a fenced garden, all reserved on a black ground except the white glazed interior and rims, underglaze blue six-character Chenghua mark -- 17½in. (44.4cm.) high.
