These stools are most probably part of a larger set of giltwood seat furniture which furnished the second floor of the Palazzo Reale in Turin. The suite at the Palazzo Reale comprises eight stools, six side-chairs, two armchairs and a sofa, all upholstered à châssis, and all with the characteristic feature of the laurel-garlanded rails. A stool from that suite was exhibited at the Mostra del Barocco Piemontese, Turin, 1963, and is illustrated in the catalogue pl. 195, fig. b, while the related sofa and an armchair are ilustrated respectively: pl. 134 and pl. 165, fig. a.
