It is interesting to note that this richly carved and generously proportioned fauteuil à la reine relates to a suite of seat furniture from the celebrated English Palladian house Ditchley Park. As discussed by John Cornforth ('How French style touched the Georgian drawing room', Country Life, 6 January 2000, pp. 52-55) the tapestry-covered open armchairs appear on first impression to be Louis XV models, however, their construction with particularly strong rails and the lack of pegs in the joints suggests the possibility of an English origin.
