A George III Irish mahogany longcase clock, circa 1770
The hood with carved cresting and with outset fluted columns, long trunk door with wavy arch and flanked by fluted half columns, with raised panel to the plinth, the 13½ in. wide cut-away brass dial with mask and foliate spandrels to silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, signed Chas. Gillespy/DUBLIN, matted centre with subsidiary seconds at intervals of 10, ringed winding holes and date aperture, blued steel later hands, the eight day movement with four pillars and inside countwheel strike (now on gong), built up cheekboards; possibly associated -- 98 in. (249 cm.) high; pendulum, two weights, crank key, case key
