HIGHLIGHTS FROM A REMARKABLE CACHE OF WINES
Recently removed from an impeccably maintained, temperature controlled hillside cellar in Northern California.
Property of a passionate private collector.
A collector for many years and a passionate connoisseur of the old and rare, the selection presented here is a small group of his expansive and varied cellar.
Each wine was carefully purchased from the best sources including - I am happy to say - Christie's in New York.
Richard Brierley
Lots 1 - 144
Highlights of this collection include:
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti - Lots 1-62
Mature Montrachet from various producers - Lots 73-85
Pétrus 1982 in double-magnums - Lots 86-87
Château Lafleur 1982 - Lot 89
Vintage Champagne - Lots 107-113
Sassicaia 1985 and Vega Sicilia 1968 - Lots 118-121
A full dozen of Heitz, Martha's Vineyard 1974 - Lot 123
The legendary Penfolds Grange 1971 and 1976 - Lots 141-143
Echézeaux--Vintage 1969
Côte de Nuits, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
Levels: 4cm; bin soiled label
"Spicy and surprisingly high-toned with mature aromas yet only hints of sous bois and that lovely earthy quality older Echézeaux acquires that are followed by rich, delicious, deep and sappy flavors that are completely ready yet holding well. This is particularly nice on the finish as it completely coats the mouth and avoids the excess acidity that many '69s display today. I would be drinking this now and over the next decade as there is no further improvement to be had." BH, November 22, 2005
