Details
PIAN DELL VIGNE

Antinori's Brunello vineyard, Pian delle Vigne is planted with Sangiovese vines alongside olive trees and borders a forest. Seated above the Val d'Orcia in the southern part of the Montalcino zone, this vineyard was sold to Antinori in 1995, and he began producing wine from it that same year. This Brunello spends three years in oak casks of various sizes and an additional four months minimum in bottle before release.

"The Antinori firm purchased this estate in July, 1995, and although 1995 is generally a superior vintage for Brunello than 1996, they feel their work in the vineyard and stricter selection in 1996 produced a better wine. Most 1996 Brunellos I have tasted are austere and tannic, although there are some gorgeous exceptions. This is certainly one of them. Pian delle Vigne's 1996 Brunello di Montalcino offers a complex bouquet of new saddle leather, spice box, soy, and earthy/plum/cherry fruit. Its deep ruby/garnet color is accompanied by a sweet attack as well as a ripe, medium-bodied, slightly austere finish. It should drink well for 10-12 years."
