Lot Essay

This unmarked bowl is an early example of Tiffany glass. Similar pieces, with undulating form and bright, relflective surface, appear in the Nash notebooks and are in the collection of pieces accessioned by the Smithsonian Insitution in 1896. The Nash notebooks state: "In 1897 Arthur J. Nash introduced lustre glass based on experiments that he had been working on for many years before coming to this country (America) as his books show, he had perfected a copper lustre and silver mirror lustre..."
