Gumps San Francisco was perhaps San Francisco's most important department store. Renowned for importing exotic goods from around the world, they were considered unparalleled retailers on the West Coast and were one of the major importers of South American silver during the 1920s and 1930s. Gumps' Honolulu store was closed prior to World War II, hence the dating of this piece from the mid 1930s.
