Lot Essay

cf. B. Foucart, et. al., Normandie: Queen of the Sea, New York, 1985. p. 95 for an illustration of chairs of this design in the dining room of the Normandie.

These chairs were designed by Patout for the first class dining room of the great French luxury oceanliner Normandie. Two chairs of this model are in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
