Lot Essay

cf. S. A. Martin, Archibald Knox, London, 2001, p. 238 for an illustration of a clock of this model with a varying abalone pattern. S. A. Martin, ed., Archibald Knox, London, 1995, p. 91 for a clock of this model with abalone on the arms only.

This wall clock, designed by Knox for Liberty & Co., is amongst the rarest of his remarkable clocks which were inspired by the forms of the ancient Celtic grave stones found on his native Isle of Man in the Irish Sea.
