Lot Essay

The bronze prototypes for this form of cane-stemmed Roman tripod candelabrum are discussed in D.M. Bailey, A Catalogue of the Lamps in the British Museum IV, London, 1996. Replicas of related candelabra from Pompeii and Herculanium are illustrated in the 1910 catalogue of the Naples Fonderie Artistiche, J. Chiurazzi & Fils-S. De Angelis & Fils, who exhibited at major International Exhibitions around 1900.
