Lot Essay

Cf. Peter Bradshaw, Bow Porcelain Figures (London, 1992), p.127, figure 102; and on p. 105, Bradshaw postulates that this series of The Senses, with their distinctive postures, small heads and draperies, may have been based on a set of French 17th century engravings, as yet untraced.
