AN HISPANO-MORESQUE LUSTRE DISH
CIRCA 1525-60, PROBABLY VALENCIA (MANISES)
Decorated in gold and copper lustre and enriched in pale blue, the central lustred boss reserved with a rosette, the well with five lozenge-shaped blue-edged panels of lustred wave ornament on a ground of lustred spindle ornament divided by lustre trees, the lustre spindle ornament ground of the border reserved with moulded clusters of leaves, alternately rendered in lustre and blue and lustre, pierced aperture for suspension, the reverse decorated in copper lustre with a central rosette within spiralling lines enclosed by scrolling fern ornament around the border (crack from rim to centre riveted on reverse, chipping and flaking, large rim chip)
