A KELSTERBACH WHITE FIGURE OF A VINTNER EMBLEMATIC OF AUTUMN
CIRCA 1763
Modelled by Carl Vogelmann, standing barefoot in a tunic and breeches with flowing drapery billowing out behind him and upwards behind his back, his hair entwined with bunches of grapes and holding up a garland of fruiting vine, on a mound base moulded with scrolls and applied with a vine branch (slight chips to drapery and two larger chips, slight chips to ends of tied ribbon on one leg)

Lot Essay

See Kurt Röder, Das Kelsterbacher Porzellan (Darmstadt, 1931), pl. II for related figures of Fortuna, Jupiter and Mars on similar bases and all modelled with billowing drapery. The figure of Mars (no. 9) is identical in pose to the present lot.
