Baltazar/A PARIS and coteau below 30, with an inner concentric calendar ring, pierced and chased ormolu hands and blued steel calendar hand, the case surmounted by a laurel-swagged urn and flanked to each side by a female herm, the twin barrel movement now with anchor escapement and Brocot regulation, countwheel strike on bell; pendulum

Either Jean-Baptiste-Claude Baltazar, who flourished in the rue Contrescarpe from 1765, or Jean-Baptiste Baltazar, Compagnon horloger, who was appointed Cour du Dragon in 1778.
Joseph Coteau (1740-1812) enameller, supplying dials for the great clockmakers of France. Born in Geneva he became maître-peintre-émailleur at the Académie de Saint-Luc in Geneva in 1766. By 1772 he was installed in Rue Poupie, Paris.
