George Mattison was a farmer in Hall County, Nebraska. He entered these carvings in regional fairs, winning first place or first premium at the August 1923 Buffalo County Fair in Kearney, Nebraska, the August 1937 Fall Festival in Shelton, Nebraska, and the March 1939 Shelton Grain and Seed Show in Shelton, Nebraska.
