A full size transverse slip-eccentric reversing horizontal compound steam canoe engine, circa 1870,
with brass clad cylinders 1½in. and 3in. bores x 1½in. stroke, bronze central admission piston valves running in bronze liners, provision for draincocks, gunmetal crosshead slippers sliding on three squared guide columns supporting cylinder block away from three separate main bearings with individual rocker shafts controlled through externally mounted slip-eccentrics. The after LP end is provided with a gunmetal chain sprocket and further mounted eccentric driving the condensor unit, with vertical air pump, horizontal feed pump, early surface condensor and propeller shaft thrust block coupled so as to run parallel to the crankshaft adjacent to the centre axis of the engine. Finished in brightwork -- 9in. high x 10¼in. (across ships) 17in. (fore and aft) (3)
