A detailed large-scale full working miniature of the Yates & Thom double-beam McNaught compound jet condensing mill engine originally built in the Fulledge Mill, Burnley
modelled by P. Ingham (1947-1963), with lagged L.P. and H.P. cylinders with cylinderhead pressure relief valves, studded stuffing boxes, eccentric and rocking lever-operated Corliss valves, jibbed and cottered little ends and parallel motion with tapered anchor links and barrelled radius rods, decorative cast beams mounted in adjustable split bearings, the trunnions and entablature supported on eight cast bronze columns, barrelled connecting rods, waisted cranks and centrally mounted round spoked flywheel with bolted rim and gear-driven counter shaft. Further details include lagged steam pipes with bolted, flanged joints, valve-rod operated cylinder lubrication system, skew gear driven Porter governor, linkage and valve, main stop valve, under floor mounted feed and air pumps, condensers, safety valves, flow valves and condensate tank. The engine is mounted on a metal floor with removable chequer-plate panels with handrails, ladders, and wood and metal walkways with staunchions and handrails, and mounted on a fabricated steel framework with secondary belt-driven flywheel, various operating controls and mounted on castors, finished in red, green, brown, blue and black and polished brightwork -- 162.5 x 136.5 x 71.3cm. (64 x 53¾ x 28½in.)
