According to the Gorham records, this pattern of candlestick was made in 1901, as a part of an extensive 30-piece dinner service which included a seven-light candelabrum (numbers 4715-4744). It is illustrated in Larry Pristo, Martele: Gorham's Art Nouveau Silver, 2002, p. 103. The other pair of candlesticks, code RUN, appear in archives with no costing information. (op. cit., pp. 221, 418). Another set of four candlesticks, dating to 1917 and commissioned for the extensive dinner service of Harry Ford Sinclair, sold in these Rooms, 16 June 1999, lot 6.
