In keeping with the regional preference of Boston cabinetmakers for restrained ornament, this chest-on-chest displays gilt pinwheel terminals, a carved and partially gilt shell, a shaped drop pendant and ogee bracket feet. Elements of the carved shell are related to those on chest-on-chests from Boston, including a small number of examples attributed to Benjamin Frothingham Jr. (1734-1809) of Charlestown, Massachusetts.
