THEODORE W. KHEEL: leading labor lawyer, mediator and arbitrator Renowned for his talents in resolving labor, business, environmental and racial disputes, Theodore W. Kheel has been called on to resolve major conflicts for over half a century. From newspaper, railway, postal and football strikes to Broadway, Kheel's success in bringing opposing parties to agreement is unrivalled. Presidents from Kennedy to Carter have relied on Kheel to resolve labor disputes that threatened America's economy. In his book, The Keys to Conflict Resolution, Kheel documents the principles and strategies he has developed in his career as a legendary mediator and arbitrator. Born in Brooklyn, Kheel has long been a resident and advocate for New York City. His persistence and skill were pivotal in bringing Christo's "Gates" to Central Park. In recognition of Kheel's role in the Gates project, the Christos allocated sales of Gates-related items to the Nurture New York's Nature Foundation, an environmental organization founded by Kheel to benefit New York. Kheel attended Cornell University, where he earned both an A.B. and an LLB and met his wife, Ann Sunstein Kheel (d. 2003). He is a past president of both the New York and National Urban League and has served as advisor to many of New York City's mayors. Kheel is currently of counsel at the law firm, Paul, Hastings. Both Kheel and his wife, before her passing, have been dedicated leaders in promoting civic causes - social as well as environmental. Together they founded the TASK Foundation, an organization that promotes the overall well-being of the earth's inhabitants and environment through health, education and culture.
