Tapering cylindrical, on a molded foot, the scroll handle with applied beaded rattail and with corkscrew thumbpiece and a cast cherub's-mask terminal, the flat domed cover with crenellated border, and chevron-engraved roundel, the handle engraved with the initials AW, marked three times on shoulder, and with French control mark

Lot Essay

Peter Van Dyck (1684-1750) apprenticed with New York silversmith Bartholomew Le Roux beginning on August 17, 1700. He later married Le Roux's daughter, Rachel, in 1711.
