Lot Essay

A cabinet of virtually identical form, but mounted with tortoiseshell, is illustrated in D. Ledoux-Lebard, Les Ebinistes du XIXe Sihcle, Paris, 1984, p. 391.

The maker is thought to be the Kolb, known as Kolb Jeune working at 38 rue de Tourtille in Belleville between 1853 and 1860. Ledoux-Lebard also lists four other ibinistes with this surname although the author makes no connection between them.
