The plates were designed and engraved by two different artists, Jeremias Wachsmuht (1711-1771) and Johann David Nessenthaler (1717-1766). They were produced in three different sizes: The largest, also called quarto are 156 x 298mm., the medium-sized prints are 92 x 143mm. or octavo and the smallest or duodez size are 73 x 90mm. and also, incidentally, the rarest. A set was made up of six prints with the largest size also containing a seventh view or 'gate' depicting a proscenium arch. Sixty-seven different scenes have been recorded in the large size.
