Engelbrecht Peep Views Martin Engelbrecht (1684-1756) was an Augsburg based publisher and printmaker who specialised in making detailed sets of engravings that made up views for use in perspective theatres. The plates were designed and engraved by two different artists, Jeremias Wachsmuht (1711-1771) and Johann David Nessenthaler (1717-1766). They were produced in three different sizes: The largest, also called quarto are 156 x 298mm., the medium-sized prints are 92 x 143mm. or octavo and the smallest or duodez size are 73 x 90mm. and also, incidentally, the rarest. A set was made up of six prints with the largest size also containing a seventh view or 'gate' depicting a proscenium arch. Sixty-seven different scenes have been recorded in the large size.
