Lot Essay

Pieter van Musschenbroeck (1692-1761) is known for having made projectors and the Boerhaave Museum in the Netherlands has a Musschenbroeck lantern in its collection (inv. no. 10916). This lantern includes similar slides with the characteristic shaped edges which help keep the slide in a precise position behind the lens.
