This form, rare to find in famille verte, is evidently based on 17th century German glass shapes which were then made in silver and Dutch Delft. C. Le Corbeiller illustrates a blue and white example from the collection of the Metropolitan Museum, New York, in Patterns of Exchange, p. 27. The relationship she notes between the "unusual" vine pattern of the Museum's vase and the Indian chintzes that were a large part of the East/West trade is even more apparent in these verte-enamelled examples.
