Lot Essay

Traditional Chinese patterns such as that on this famille rose plate were the direct inspiration for Cornelis Pronk's 'La Dame au Parasol.' M. Beurdeley illustrates a similar blue and white piece (China Trade Porcelain, Rutland, Vermont and Tokyo, 1969, p. 56), calling it "...the original in blue and white porcelain which served as a model."
