As explained by D.S. Howard, op. cit., this from an extensive service decorated with a variety of intriguing pseudo-armorial devices with varying mottos. The original meaning or intent remains unclear. The service was sold by Christie's London for Major Sir George Burns at North Mymms Park, 24-27 September, 1979.
