A study for Andromache's gown as it falls from the chair in Andromache and Astyanax, a painting commissioned by the Empress Marie-Louise in 1813 but never received by the patron due to Napoleon's abdication in 1814. Left unfinished and retouched by Prud'hon's friend and avid collector Charles Boulanger de Boisfremont, who also owned the present drawing along with other studies for the composition, the painting is now at the Metropolitan Museum, New York (see exhib. cat., Pierre-Paul Prud'hon, Paris, 1997-8, no. 161).
