Lot Essay

Goodwin recalled Holland when visiting British Guiana in 1902:
'Georgetown is simply a tropical Dutch suburb; the environs of Dordrecht might be this place with the addition of tropical foliage and climate. One misses the Dutch quaint architecture.' (Diary, 26th February, 1902).
