Lot Essay

'Bacchus and Ariadne' (private collection) was exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1913 and at the New English Art Club, London, the following winter. It was included in the 1980 exhibition catalogue, p. 42, B10, (illustrated), and represented Southall in the exhibition The Last Romantics held at the Barbican Art Gallery, London, in 1989 (no. 73).
