Lot Essay

Zanzibar is the capital of two East African islands off mainland Tanzania. Its oldest area Stone Town with its beautiful mosques, round towers and meandering lanes is a World Heritage Site. When Erwin Günther visited in the 1880's, he would have been able to admire the new House of Wonders that had been completed in 1883 by Sultan Barghash and is just visible in the present lot.
