The verde antico marble top on female caryatid, foliate and shell carved legs joined by a frieze centred with a crowned cartouche and by cross-stretchers, the underside marked in Greek script, 'S.Magiasis, Athens', the marble repaired

Lot Essay

The original table dating from circa 1713, now in the Lourve, Paris, was made for the Chateau de Bercy. Napolean III purchased the table when the contents of the chateau were sold and the table has since served as a model for many cabinet-makers.
