Lot Essay

The globe clock is presided over by figures, in the manner of Auguste-Louis-Moreau (d.1917), representing the sun-deity Apollo as emblematic of day, and in company with his sister Diana, the moon and night-deity. Japy Freres exhibited at the great Paris Exhibitions held during the second half of the 19th century.
