The sideboard-table's marble slab is raised on a picturesque frame inhabited by draco-serpents and celebrates Ceres as goddess of agriculture. With its richly sculpted and sarcophagus-scrolled pilasters terminating in bacchic satyr-hooves and wave-scrolled stretchers supporting a garland-bearing youth, it relates in part to patterns invented by the French sculptor Nicholas Pineau (d. 11754) and issued in Mariette's, Nouveaux desseins de pids de tables et de vases et consoles de sculpture en bois..par le Sieur Pinceau, published in Architecture Française 1717-the late 1730s.
