Lot Essay

Lady Augusta Henrietta Scott was the second daughter of the 2nd Earl of Eldon. She married Thomas Francis Halford, 2nd Baron Cottesloe in September 1859. Lord Cottesloe, a barrister, was Member of Parliament for Bucks between 1876 and 1885. The couple had two sons.

Frederick Richard Say was the son of the engraver William Say. A successful painter of society figures, he counted among his sitters George IV, Earl Grey, HRH Prince Albert and the Archbishop of York.
