Lot Essay

The Encombe Drawing Room Loo table, en suite with the library-table of golden and fine-figured walnut [Lot 126] has reed-gadrooned enrichments evoking the poet's Arcadian deity Pan, and is designed in the robust early 19th century Grecian style. Its altar drum top raised on a turned and chamfered pillar and serpentined tripod-altar base with bacchic lion-paws issuing from acanthus-wrapped trusses.
