Portrait of a gentleman, bust-length, in a black doublet with white ruff
With inscription by the 2nd Earl of Eldon 'Head of a Man in a Ruff./This picture belonged to the late Lord Chancellor Eldon./It represents the Head of a Man in a Ruff, and appears/to have been painted by Pourbus. The stamp burnt/into the panel on which it is painted shews it to be/decidedly a Flemish picture./Eldon. 1840.' (on the reverse)
